Dhanuk- The Aboriginal Inhabitants
The peoples of the community, aboriginals of India, were forte in arrow and bow. Thus, they were called Dhanukh which in due course of time became Dhanuk/Dhanuka/Dhank etc. Despite, low social ranking in society, this community has contributed a lot to the country. Members of this community died during freedom struggle. As for instance, Shaheed Ramphal Mandal of Sitamarhi District. One of the most acclaimed Hindi Novel writer Phanishwar Nath ‘Renu’ belongs to this community. His novel ‘Maila Anchal’ and Parati Parikatha regarded as inimitable narrative of rural life, politics and society. However, the members of this community still leaving below poverty line, illiterate and far from main stream of the society.
